Prohibited Items

Last updated: July 2, 2026

Sellcurb is a place for Neighbors to pass household items on to each other — safely, at the curb, face to face. A few kinds of items don't belong in that exchange, either because the law restricts them or because they can't change hands safely at a doorstep. This page lists what can't be listed, and why.

How we keep the neighborhood safe

Every new listing is checked automatically when it's created — our AI reviews the photos and text against this list. Neighbors can also report a listing they believe breaks these rules, and a person on our team reviews every report. If a listing is blocked and the seller appeals, we aim to review the appeal within a few hours; reports and automated flags are reviewed within two days.

If a listing breaks these rules, we remove it. Repeated or serious violations can lead to account restrictions or closure.

What can't be listed

These categories aren't allowed on Sellcurb, whether the item is for sale or free.

Weapons & related items

Weapons can't change hands safely at a curbside pickup, and most are regulated well beyond what a neighborhood handoff can honor.

  • Firearms, ammunition, magazines and clips, firearm parts and accessories
  • Explosives and fireworks
  • BB, airsoft, paintball, and pellet guns
  • Tasers and stun guns; mace, pepper, and bear spray
  • Brass knuckles and switchblades
  • Bows, crossbows, and their ammunition

Drugs, alcohol, tobacco & vaping

Age-restricted and controlled substances need licensed, verified sales — a doorstep exchange can't provide either.

  • Illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia
  • Prescription drugs and supplements making drug claims
  • Alcohol
  • Tobacco, e-cigarettes, vapes, and nicotine products
  • Cannabis and CBD/THC products

Recalled, hazardous & regulated goods

If an item has been recalled, is dangerous to handle, or needs a license to sell, passing it to a Neighbor passes them the risk too.

  • Recalled items
  • Hazardous materials and flammable or toxic substances
  • Items that require a license to sell, or whose local resale is restricted

Live animals

Animals aren't household goods — rehoming them safely takes screening that a listing can't do.

  • Live animals of any kind
  • Parts or products from endangered or protected species

Adult & sexual content

Sellcurb is a neighborhood space that everyone, including kids browsing with a parent, should be able to scroll.

  • Pornography and sexually explicit material
  • Sexual services
  • Adult products

Stolen goods

Selling something that isn't yours to sell harms the true owner and the Neighbor who unknowingly takes it home.

  • Stolen property of any kind
  • Items you don't have the right to sell

Counterfeits & copies

Fakes trade on someone else's name and leave a Neighbor with less than they paid for.

  • Counterfeit or replica branded goods
  • Unauthorized copies of media or software

Personal, financial & digital-only items

IDs, financial instruments, and account access are the raw material of fraud — and digital goods have no curbside handoff.

  • Government IDs and official documents
  • Financial instruments, including gift cards
  • Medical and healthcare items, or products making protective-equipment claims
  • Account logins and credentials
  • Digital-only goods and services with no local handoff

People, body parts & services

Sellcurb is for passing on local, physical goods — never people, parts of people, or work-for-hire.

  • Listings offering or seeking people
  • Body parts or bodily fluids
  • Services outside Sellcurb's local-goods scope
  • Multi-level-marketing offers and get-rich schemes

Not sure? Don't list it — ask us
