Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Sellcurb collects, uses, and shares your information when you use the service. If anything in this policy is unclear, reach us at privacy@sellcurb.com.
Who we are
Sellcurb is a neighborhood marketplace in San Diego. Neighbors list household items to sell or give away, browse and claim what other neighbors are passing on, and fulfill Asks posted by verified local organizations — all of it here on Sellcurb. Nothing you post is published to any other site. Sellcurb is operated by Sellcurb LLC in the United States.
There are two kinds of accounts:
- Neighbor — a person. Neighbors list items, sell, give items away, claim free items, and offer items to Asks.
- Advocate — a verified local organization. An Advocate posts Asks for items it needs and coordinates pickup with the neighbor who offers one. Advocate accounts cannot list, sell, or buy.
Information we collect
Account information
Your email address, the display name and handle you choose, and the zip code or neighborhood you use so we can confirm you're in the service area and show you what's nearby. Sellcurb accounts are email-only: you sign in with a one-time code or link sent to your email, so there is no password for us to store. We do not collect phone numbers, and we never send text messages.
Listing and Ask information
The photos you upload, the item details you write or approve, the pickup area and pickup times you set, and pricing — including a private floor price that is never shown to anyone else. For Advocates: the item an Ask describes and the pickup or dropoff arrangements made against it.
Messages and coordination
Messages between neighbors are sent and stored on Sellcurb. That includes offers and counteroffers, the pickup time you agree on, the pickup location once a pickup is confirmed, and any AI-drafted reply you send or approve. We keep these to operate the conversation, resolve disputes, and review the quality of the AI that helps draft them.
Payment information
Sellcurb sells listing credits, and only on the web. Card details are entered directly with our payment processor (Stripe) and are never stored by Sellcurb; we keep Stripe's customer reference, the last four digits of a saved card, and a record of each credit bought and each credit spent. Sellcurb never handles the money for an item itself — that is settled directly between neighbors at pickup, so we hold no record of the amount or the method.
Location information
Location is optional in both places we use it.
- Sorting by distance, and rough travel times. You can share your device location once so the marketplace can sort items by how far they are from you. We store those coordinates on your account so we don't have to ask again; if you never share it, we fall back to the center of a San Diego neighborhood instead. Once you and another neighbor have confirmed a pickup, we also use that stored location to tell them roughly how long your trip is (“about 20 minutes away”). They are shown that estimate and nothing else — not your coordinates, not your neighborhood, and not a map.
- Live ETA on the way to a pickup. Once a pickup is confirmed you can share a live ETA with the other neighbor. Your ETA is calculated on your device: only the estimated minutes away are sent to Sellcurb — never your coordinates and never your route. The share ends automatically when you arrive, when the pickup is confirmed or cancelled, when you end it, or when its time window runs out, and the last estimate is cleared within a day.
- Arrival help with the app closed (mobile app only). If you are already sharing a live ETA, the app may ask a second time for permission to keep helping once you put your phone away. Saying yes sets up two invisible boundaries around that one pickup spot: crossing the outer one sends the other neighbor a single “about 5 minutes out” heads-up, and crossing the inner one asks youwhether to tell them you've arrived — nothing is sent to them unless you tap. Your phone is not followed in between: no route, no location history, and still no coordinates sent to Sellcurb. Both boundaries are removed when the pickup ends or fifteen minutes after its scheduled time, whichever comes first, and you can turn it off at any time from the conversation or in your phone's settings.
Notifications
If you turn on push notifications, we store the push token your browser or phone issues and your per-category notification preferences. Email notifications can be switched off in Settings; transactional email (sign-in, receipts, and messages about your own account) always sends.
Usage and analytics
We record what happens in the app — pages visited, buttons clicked, listings published — plus service-health and error telemetry. These are product analytics, not surveillance: events never carry listing or message content, they are tied only to an opaque account id (never your email), and we do not track you across other sites. Analytics capture stays off until you accept it in the consent banner, and you can turn it off at any time in Settings.
How we use your information
- To run the marketplace and show your listings and Asks to nearby neighbors.
- To draft listing content with AI from the photos and details you provide, and to screen listings against our Prohibited Items policy.
- To deliver messages between neighbors and coordinate pickups.
- To sell and account for listing credits via Stripe.
- To send you email and push notifications about your listings, messages, pickups, and account.
- To keep Sellcurb safe: reviewing reports, investigating rule violations, and enforcing our Terms.
- To improve the service, including prompt tuning, AI quality evaluation, and replay-based regression testing.
How AI uses your information
When you create a listing from photos, we send those photos and the details you give us to our AI provider (Anthropic) to draft a title, description, and suggested price. You review and can edit everything before it publishes. AI also screens listings against our Prohibited Items policy and can draft replies to neighbors on your behalf — anything high-stakes (committing to a price, a time, or a pickup location) waits for your explicit approval before it is sent. Content sent to our AI provider is processed to produce that output and is not used to train its models.
Third-party service providers
Sellcurb shares data only with the service providers needed to operate. We do not sell your data to advertisers or data brokers.
- Stripe — payment processing for listing credits
- Supabase — database, authentication, and photo storage
- Anthropic — AI processing (listing drafts, prohibited-item screening, message drafts)
- Resend — email delivery
- Expo — push-notification delivery to the iPhone app
- Vercel — application hosting
- Sentry — error tracking (personally identifying information is redacted before transmission)
What other neighbors can see
Other people on Sellcurb see your display name and handle, your rating and review count once you have them, the listings or Asks you post, and the general area you list from. The exact pickup location is revealed only to the neighbor you've confirmed a pickup with, and only once it's confirmed.
Your contact details stay yours. Sellcurb never shows your email address to another neighbor, and there are no phone numbers on the platform to share. Everything is coordinated through Sellcurb messages, so neighbors can arrange a pickup without trading contact information at all.
Reports and enforcement
Anyone signed in can report a listing or a neighbor, and a person on our team reviews every report. We keep a record of the report, what was reported, and the outcome — including any warning, suspension, or account closure, and any appeal. We do not tell the person who was reported who reported them.
How long we keep your information
- Account data: until you delete your account or request deletion.
- Messages between neighbors and AI decision records (including how the AI classified a message and what it drafted or sent): retained for two (2) years from listing closure. This supports dispute evidence and AI regression testing.
- Listing photos and listing text: retained for two (2) years from listing closure.
- Analytics events: raw events are kept for thirteen (13) months, then aggregated into non-identifying monthly counts. Those aggregates cannot be traced back to you and may be retained longer.
- Live-pickup ETA: cleared within a day of the share ending.
- Arrival help: we keep only that it was switched on, that a heads-up was sent, and how the arrival was recorded — for the same period as the pickup itself. There are no positions to keep.
Your rights
You can delete your account yourself, on the web and in the iPhone app. On the web, open Settingsand use the “Danger zone” card at the bottom of the page. On the iPhone, open Accountand tap “Delete account”. Both ask you to type DELETE to confirm, and both run the same deletion — there is no support queue in between, and you do not need to email us or download the app to leave.
Deleting is immediate and cannot be undone. Your name, email address, phone number and neighborhood are erased; your active listings are withdrawn; your open conversations are closed; any unused listing credits are forfeited, because credits are tied to your account and are neither transferable nor refundable; your device notification tokens are removed; and your sign-in is deleted, so the account cannot be signed into again. We keep the account record itself in de-identified form — it no longer names or contacts you — so that a neighbor you traded with does not lose their own message, review, and pickup history.
For access, correction, or an export of your data — or if you would rather we delete the account for you — email support@sellcurb.com. We will respond within 30 days.
- Data export — receive a machine-readable archive of your account, listings, and message threads. This one is by email for now.
- Account deletion — do it yourself in Settings on the web or Account in the iPhone app, and it takes effect at once. If you ask us by email instead, your account, listings, and message content are deleted within 30 days, subject to any retention required for legal or fraud-prevention reasons (in which case the data is access-restricted, not actively used).
California and EU residents have specific statutory rights (CCPA/CPRA, GDPR) that we will honor to the extent required by applicable law.
Security
We use industry-standard encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. Sign-in is passwordless — a one-time code or link sent to your email — so there is no password to steal. Web sessions use HTTP-only cookies issued by Supabase Auth; the iPhone app keeps its session in the device keychain. We never share your email address with another neighbor; all neighbor-to-neighbor correspondence stays inside Sellcurb.
Children
Sellcurb is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. We will post changes on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Significant changes will be announced via email.
